Devendra Gangadharrao Fadnavis the current Chief Minister of Maharashtra is a rare brand of politician who is both, erudite and popular with the masses. He is a man known for his political wisdom and intellect; strength of character, sharpness of mind, and organisational skills. He is considered to be farsighted and firm in his approach and extremely humble in his dealings. He was born on 22nd July, 1970 in Nagpur. After completing schooling from Saraswati Vidyalaya, Fadnavis attended Dharampeth Junior College for intermediate. After completing his 12th standard, he enrolled at Government Law College, Nagpur, for a five-year integrated law degree and graduated in 1992.
He was the former Advocate General of Maharashtra during chief ministership of Mr. Sharad Pawar and also served as the President of Vidarbha Cricket Association in the past. He also represented Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt in Supreme Court and Harbhajan Singh against the three-Test ban imposed on him by the ICC. At the age of 16, he joined his family business of trading in Iron and Steel, while continuing his studies in B. Com from Calcutta University. During the Naxalite movement in Kolkata, Shri Shaw decided to shift to Nagpur and set up his first foundry for manufacturing Railway and Municipal castings at MIDC, Nagpur in 1974. Mrs. Bimla Negi Deoskar is Recipient of First National Adventure Award – 1994 Government of India’s Highest National Award for Excellence in the Field of Adventure Sports(at par with Arjuna Award). She is working for promoting the adventure sports amongst youth of our country. Her focus is on providing activities to the underprivileged youth from remote areas. She is the President of Nagpur Chapter of National Adventure Foundation. She is also the founder member and Joint secretary of Women Adventure Network of India, [WANI] which has its headquarters at Nagpur and founder Director of National Adventure Foundation’s Nagpur chapter which was established in 1994.

Presently, he is a non-executive director at TRF Ltd while also holding directorships in many government corporations, as well as public and private companies. He has also recently been appointed by the government of India to chair an expert committee overseeing the drafting of the new Indian Companies Act and has also been nominated to participate in an expert committee established to review and recommend the development of the Indian coal sector. He was born on 2nd June, 1936. He completed B.Sc. from Science College, Nagpur in 1956 and M.Sc. in Geology from the Nagpur University in 1958.
Dr. Dinesh A. Keskar is the President of Boeing India and VP of Boeing International Trading. In this role, Dr. Keskar heads a sales organization, including contracts, marketing, revenue management and other support functions. He served as President of Boeing India at Boeing Defence Australia Limited since March 1, 2009 and represents its elements. He served as Vice President of International at Boeing Defence Australia Limited since March 1, 2009. Dr. Keskar has led Boeing-wide efforts focused on expanding its local presence and pursuing new growth and productivity initiatives. Shri Vishnu Govind Somalwar, known as “Bhausaheb” Somalwar was born on 29th July 1913. After his B.Sc, Bhausaheb served as a teacher for a year in Government High School, Akola. Subsequently, he heralded the growth of Somalwar Academy Education Society.
Harish Salve is one of India’s leading lawyers, in the areas of constitutional, commercial and taxation laws. He primarily practices at the Supreme Court of India, but also appears in various High Courts and in international arbitral disputes, sometimes as a counsel and other times as an adjudicator. He served as the Solicitor General of India from 1st November, 1999 to 3rd November 2002.
Mr. Iqbal Ahmed is a pioneer and leading model maker from Nagpur. His experience with running a car repair workshop helped him to develop miniature model making as a serious hobby. He has won many contests in USA and Germany for making working miniature models of steam engines and machine tools.
Mahesh Elkunchwar is an Indian playwright with more than 20 plays to his name, in addition to his theoretical writings, critical works, and his active work in India’s Parallel Cinema as actor and screenwriter. Today, along with Vijay Tendulkar he is one of the most influential and progressive playwrights not just in modern Marathi theatre, but also larger modern Indian theatre. He was born on 9th October, 1939. He completed his education from Morris college in Nagpur and his M.A. in English from Nagpur University. He taught English literature at Dharampeth Arts, Commerce College, Nagpur and M. P. Deo Memorial Science College, Nagpur, until retiring as its Head in 1999.
Manik Godghate popularly known by his pen name Grace, was a Marathi prose writer and poet. He is most popular as lyricist of the Marathi song “Bhaya Ithale Sampat Nahi”, which was sung by Lata Mangeshkar as the title track for the TV serial Mahashweta. His book Vaaryane Halte Raan (The forest swings with the wind) was awarded the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award in 2011. He was born on 10th May, 1937 in Nagpur. He has earned a degree in MA with a major in Marathi literature from University of Nagpur. He has worked as a lecturer in the National College, Science College and Morris College, Nagpur.
Maruti B. Chitampalli is a wildlife conservationist and Marathi writer from Maharashtra, India. He grew up in Solapur and then went to enroll himself in State Forest Service College in Coimbatore. After completing his training, he joined the services with Maharashtra State government. During his professional life, he moved at various forests and national parks, having live experiences with various entities. This laid the foundation of his interest in writing his literary works, mostly in Marathi. He retired from Maharashtra state government service as the Deputy Chief Conservator of Forests. He was instrumental in the development of Karnala Bird Sanctuary, Navegaon National Park, Nagzira Sanctuary and Melghat Tiger Project; also constructing orphanages for displaced wildlife at the last two institutions.

Mohammad Hidayatullah was the sixth Vice-President of India who was in this position from 31st August 1976 to 30th August 1984 who also served as the acting President of India from 20th July 1969 to 24th August 1969. He was the Chief Justice of India from 25th February 1968 to 16th December 1970. He was born on 17th December 1905 in Lucknow in British India. He belonged to an upper class family of Khan Bahadur Hafiz Mohammed Wilayatullah. He studied at Government High School of Raipur and studied at Morris College in Nagpur and attended Trinity College at the University of Cambridge from 1927 to 1930. He was awarded Gold Medal for his performance in 1930. After graduation, Hidayatullah returned to India and enrolled as an advocate of the High Court of Central Provinces and Berar at Nagpur on 19th July, 1930. He also taught Jurisprudence and Mahomedan Law in the University College of Law at Nagpur and was also the Extension Lecturer in English literature. On 12th December, 1942, he was appointed as the Government Leader in the High Court at Nagpur.
Narayan Shastri Dravid is an eminent philosopher well versed in both Indian and Western traditions 0f philosophy. He was trained in Navya-Nyaya by stalwarts like the late Panditaraja Rajesvara Sastri and his pupil, the late Harirama Sastri. He studied Buddhism and western philosophy at Banaras Hindu University. He was awarded the Ph. D. degree for his work on ‘Nyaya Epistemology’. He taught philosophy at Nagpur University for more than two decades. He also worked as a visiting Professor at the University of Hawai, USA, for a couple of years. Professor Dravid was a Fellow at the Indian Council of Philosophical Research and also at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla. He has published a large number of scholarly papers in reputed Journals in English, Hindi and Marathi.
Air Chief Marshal Naik was born on July 22, 1949 in Nagpur, Maharashtra and was commissioned into the Indian Air Force on June 21, 1969 as a fighter pilot. He is an alumnus of Sainik School, Satara and National Defence Academy, Khadakvasla in Maharashtra. During his 42 years of service, he has served in a variety of command staff and instructional appointments. He has over 3,000 hours of flying on his log. The Air Chief also took part in 1971 war air actions in the Eastern and Western sector. Before taking over as Chief of Air Staff, he was the Vice Chief of Air Staff of the Indian Air Force. He has also served as the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Allahabad-based, Central Air Command.
Rajkumar Hirani is an Indian director, screenwriter and film editor of Hindi films, best known for the films. His father Suresh Hirani ran a typing institute in Nagpur. Hirani family migrated to India from Mehrabpur, Sindh(now Pakistan). Rajkumar Hirani studied in St. Francis De’Sales High School, Nagpur. He has done his graduation in commerce. He was born on 20th November, 1962.
Ram Balkrushna Shewalkar was a Marathi orator, writer, and literary critic from Maharashtra, India. He was born on March 2, 1931 in Achalpur in Amravati district of Maharashtra. Shewalkar obtained post graduate college degrees in Marathi and Sanskrit literature. He taught Sanskrit in a college for some years, and served for more than 25 years as the principal of a college at Wani in Yavatmal district. In the 1980s, musician and singer Hridaynath Mangeshkar presented to the public in Maharashtra a popular musical program Amrutacha Ghanu which was based on the poetic compositions of Dnyaneshwar. Just before his musical presentations, Shewalkar would present a scholarly commentary on Dnyaneshwar’s works. The commentary received much acclaim in the Marathi-speaking public in Maharashtra. He was awarded an honorary in D.Litt.(degree) by Nagpur University.

He is a Bren Professor in Information & Computer Sciences, Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences, University of California, Irvine. He was the founding Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Multi-Media magazine and the Machine Vision and Applications journal. He still serves on the editorial boards of several journals. He has been elected a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the International Association for Pattern Recognition (IAPR), the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI), and the Society for Optics and Photonics Technology (SPIE). He has published over 250 research papers in scientific journals and conferences. He was born on June 8, 1949 in Nagpur and has received his Bachelor’s degree from Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur.
Shashank Vyankatesh Manohar is a prominent Indian lawyer who is currently serving as the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. He was elected as the new president of the BCCI unopposed in the special general meeting called by the board in October 2015 following the demise of Jagmohan Dalmiya. He has also served as the 29th President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India from 2008 to 2011. As a cricket administrator he is known for his impeccable track record integrity in cricketing circles, justifying the predicate ‘”Mr. Clean”‘ attributed to him. He was born on 29th September, 1957 in Nagpur. He has also served as the President of Vidarbha Cricket Association, Nagpur.
Subhash Ghai was born in Nagpur in a Punjabi family. His father was a dentist who practised in Delhi. Subhash did his higher secondary in Delhi and thereafter graduated in Commerce from Rohtak, Haryana. In 1963, he moved to Pune, Maharashtra, to join the Film and Television Institute of India.
Swati A. Dandekar is a former Iowa state legislator and a Democratic member of the Iowa Utilities Board, awaiting Senate confirmation in 2012. Previously, she was a member of the Iowa House of Representatives for the 36th District from 2003 to 2009 and a member of the Iowa Senate for the 18th District from 2009 to 2011. She received her B.S. Degree in Biology and Chemistry from Nagpur University and a graduate diploma in dietetics from University of Mumbai. As of 2011, she served as the Chair (formerly President) of the National Foundation for Women Legislators and as a board member of the Iowa Math and Science Coalition, the Greater Cedar Rapids Foundation, and the Belin-Blank International Center for Gifted & Talented. She was born on March 6th, 1951 in Nagpur.
Dr. Vikas Mahatme, Founder Medical Director and the leader of TEAM MAHATME, is an eye surgeon. Dr. Mahatme received his medical degree in ophthalmology from Nagpur University in 1983. He lectured at the Government Medical College in Nagpur until 1985, then founded the Mahatme Eye Hospital in 1986. In 1987, he established Mahatme Eye Bank and Eye Hospital run by SMM Eye Welfare Charitable trust and is a Government of India recognized Eye Bank with maximum corneal retrieval and usage in the region. He is the member of many ophthalmological societies. As a faculty surgeon, Dr. Mahatme has conducted innumerable phaco and skill-transfer workshops, and he has performed live surgical demonstrations in India and abroad. He has performed more than 70,000 cataract surgeries and 35,000 phaco cataract surgeries, and he has compiled his techniques into a book, Step by Step Phaco Tips & Tricks, published in 2005. He has also been honoured by the President of India with the Padma Shri award in 2010.
Vikram Shankar Pandit is an Indian-born American banker. He is the former chief executive of Citigroup. Vikram Pandit was born in Dhantoli locality of Nagpur to an affluent Marathi Karhade Brahmin family. Vikram Pandit studied at Bishop Cotton School in Nagpur, and then completed his schooling at the Dadar Parsee Youths Assembly High School in Dadar, Mumbai. When Pandit was 16 years old, he moved to the United States to attend Columbia University for his undergraduate program and, in 1976, earned his B.S. degree in electrical engineering in only three years. He then completed his M.S. in electrical engineering in 1977. Pandit subsequently turned to business studies and finance and earned an MBA in 1980 followed by a PhD in finance from Columbia Business School in 1986, after publishing a thesis involving a complex financial puzzle, titled “Asset prices in a heterogeneous consumer economy”.
